Medicare
My stand-alone Medicare drug plan is ending. What now?
Choose a new drug plan to start January 1. People whose drug plan ends generally get a special window after it ends, but a gap of 63 days or more can bring a late penalty, so do not wait.
Steps
- Read your plan's notice and note the end date.
- Compare drug plans for your ZIP code using your exact medicines and pharmacy.
- Enroll so the new plan starts the day the old one ends.
What to compare
Each plan has its own list of covered drugs, tiers and pharmacy network. A plan that costs less on one medicine may cost more across your full list.

Common questions
Do I need a drug plan with Original Medicare?
Drug coverage is not automatic with Original Medicare. Most people add a plan, and going without can bring a penalty.
Can I stay with the same company?
Maybe. The notice says whether the company offers another plan you can move to.
