Medicare
A plan leaving your county is not the same as a company leaving
Sometimes a plan is only being renumbered or replaced and the company still has other plans in your county. Sometimes the company has no plan left there. The notice and the plan list tell you which.
Two different situations
- The company still offers other plans where you live: members are often moved to another plan from the same company.
- The company has no plan left in your county: you generally need to choose a new plan from another company or go to Original Medicare.
What to check either way
Even when you are moved to a similar plan, the premium, deductible, network and drug list can be different. Look at the new plan's details before January 1, and use the open enrollment period to switch if it no longer fits.
Have this ready when you call
- Your plan's notice
- Your doctors and medicines
- The ZIP code you live in
Common questions
Will I be moved automatically?
In some cases, yes. Your notice says whether a replacement plan was chosen for you and how to decline it.
Where can I see what CMS lists for my state?
On our Medicare plan changes for 2027 pages, which show what CMS's public plan lists show. Your own plan's notice is what applies to you.
