ACA open enrollment in Texas: November 1 to January 15

ACA open enrollment for 2027 coverage in Texas: the dates, what decides your price, Medicaid in Texas, and what to have ready.

The dates

In Texas, you enroll through HealthCare.gov. Open enrollment for 2027 coverage runs November 1, 2026 through January 15, 2027.

Sign up by December 15, 2026 and coverage starts January 1, 2027. Sign up December 16, 2026 through January 15, 2027 and it starts February 1, 2027. Outside open enrollment, you can generally sign up only after a qualifying life event, such as losing other coverage, moving or a change in your household.

What decides your price in Texas

Your monthly cost depends on the plan you pick, the plans offered where you live in Texas, who is covered, and your household income for the year. Many people qualify for savings that lower the monthly premium, and the Marketplace decides eligibility when you apply. Update your income estimate every fall so the savings you get match the year ahead.

Medicaid in Texas

Texas has not adopted the standard ACA Medicaid expansion. Some adults with low incomes can fall into a coverage gap where they earn too much for Medicaid and too little for Marketplace savings. Texas Health and Human Services Commission (HHSC) can say who qualifies for Medicaid here.

What to have ready
