Medicare
How to read your Medicare Annual Notice of Change
Skip to four things: next year's premium, the deductible, your doctors' network status and your medicines' tiers. Everything else matters less.
What to read first
- Premium and deductible changes, side by side with this year's.
- The yearly limit on what you pay for covered care.
- Drug costs by tier, and any changes to the drug list.
- Network changes, and whether your doctors and pharmacy are still included.
What to do with it
If anything important got worse, compare other plans for your county before December 7. If it all looks the same or better, you can stay, and you still have until December 7 to change your mind.
Have this ready when you call
- The notice
- Your doctors and medicines
- Your current plan's card
Common questions
When does the notice arrive?
Plans are required to send it ahead of the fall enrollment period, usually by the end of September.
Do I have to respond?
No. If you do nothing, you generally stay in your plan with the changes.
