The Marketplace sent a letter asking for documents: what to do
Do not ignore it. These notices come with a deadline, and if you do not respond in time you can lose your savings or your coverage. Read the letter, note the date, and send the documents it asks for.
Why it happens
The Marketplace checks what you reported against government records. If something does not match, such as income, citizenship or immigration status, you are asked to send proof.
What to do
- Find the deadline on the letter and put it on your calendar.
- Read exactly which item it asks you to prove.
- Upload or mail the documents it lists, and keep copies and a confirmation.
- If you are not sure what to send, ask for help before the deadline.
Have this ready when you call
- The letter itself
- Pay stubs or tax records for income issues
- Immigration or citizenship documents if requested
- Your application ID
Common questions
What if I miss the deadline?
You may lose savings or coverage. If that happens, contact the Marketplace right away to ask what options remain.
Are these letters real?
Use the contact information from your Marketplace account, not from a message you did not expect.
